Uploading Rally “Proofs”

Instructions for “best-practice” uploads of photo/screenshot “proofs”

Our virtual format means that you will need to send “proof” that you completed various steps — typically in the form of an email and upload of some photos or screenshots. The specific “proofs” and points for each one are listed in the Nomad Overland Virtual Adventure Rally Guide Book (which will be in the physical competitor’s packet you will receive by mail).

It’s all pretty simple, HOWEVER, once you start to have a bunch of photos to upload (as might happen if you are uploading all your Stage photos after a trip, or a batch of Photo Quest images at the end of a week) sending them as e-mail attachments can become very unwieldy!

Using WeTransfer

Our preferred method of uploading for multiple photos and screenshots is that you put them in a Folder with a relevant label (i.e., Stage 1, Kayaking, Photo Quest, etc.), then “zip” the folder and send to nomadoverlandrally@gmail.com via WeTransfer.com. Just note in your email that you are sending X, Y, and Z photos via WeTransfer so we will be on the lookout for the associated link from them.

WeTransfer is a reliable FREE service (and you can create a free account to make the process quick) which lets you send packages of up to 2 GB and will automatically send you back a confirmation once we have downloaded your submission — so you can be sure the photos were received.

You can, of course, use another method — as long as we receive them in a timely manner that is all that counts — but we have found WeTransfer to be the best and easiest solution for large file transfers.

Deadlines for “Proofs”

In order to keep the scoring process “sane” (we have to confirm proofs and calculate scores manually!) all Stage and Activity “proofs” are due within ten days of the activity or the return from the trip (for trips of multiple stages or activites that are done during travel). If you know that you will be unable to submit your proofs within this timeframe, contact us to let us know and we will give you a reasonable extension.

If you have any questions about the deadlines or the process, please ask us in the comments so we can post the reply here as someone else may have the same question.

Thank you for taking the time to explain in writing about the “proofs.” My husband and I read paragraph by paragraph as if we were in 5th grade. 🙂

LOL 🙂 You can also always ask if you have any questions about something before or during the event. Hopefully once you receive the 2022 Competition Guide book towards the end of the month, everything will become very clear — between that and the Rule Book download the format should all be straightforward and it is just a matter of getting out, exploring, and having fun!

My first two attempts were probably hideous to look at, in looking back now after reviewing this all again. WeTransfer is definitely the way to go, getting accustomed to that process! Thanks for the info, will be better in the future!
