{"id":1885,"date":"2022-06-13T21:59:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T21:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/?p=1885"},"modified":"2022-07-26T09:38:12","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T09:38:12","slug":"where-we-are-week-1-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/news\/where-we-are-week-1-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"Nomad Overland Rally Highlights: Week One"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 13, 2022 &#8211; USA: Nomad Overland Virtual Adventure Rally teams were out exploring in Michigan, North Carolina, California, Utah and Arizona during the first week of the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/team-104\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"647\">Team 104 Swenson<\/a> took the top spot on the Leaderboard with 393 points after completing their first Overland Stage in California, going from Corralitos to Santa Cruz via the Buzzard Lagoon Road. The stage was intended to be a &#8220;Shake Down&#8221; for their GX, which hadn&#8217;t been offroad for a few months. The vehicle did great, but the brand new tent was a bit of a &#8220;fail&#8221; &#8212; the tent stakes wouldn&#8217;t hold in 12 MPH winds (they are getting better stakes before heading out for Stage Two). Their travels this week took them along the 41-mile Bill Nicholls Trail through the Upper Peninsula&#8217;s scenic Copper Country and to the Adventure Mine, a Keweenaw Heritage Site, where copper mining occurred from 1850 to 1920.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012-1024x480.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012-1024x480.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012-300x141.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012-768x360.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012-1536x720.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NomadRally_WeeklyHighlights-week1_012.png 1707w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Amber and Dave Tembreull of Team 116 were out on the trails in Michigan&#8217;s Upper Peninsula with Chewy, one of their three adventure pups.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomadoverlandrally.com\/nomadrally2022\/team-121\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"636\">Team 121 Hentz<\/a> earned 3rd place with 295 points combining their first Overland Stage with a Trail Scouting in Arizona&#8217;s Tonto National Forest. Their Stage One was a loop beginning and ending in Fountain Hills, and following FR 1562 and other Forest Roads as they explored an area remembered from childhood family hunting trips. They found the area transformed, with different roads and a lot of inconsistencies between what was on the map and what was actually there. But they did manage to find the area where the family used to hunt deer and turkeys and even found an old blind that is still in use.
